Community Cluster Learning Model
(CCLM)

OBJECTIVE OF CCLM

CCLM is an acronym for Community Cluster Learning Model. The goal is to equip children in hard-to-reach communities with basic literacy and livelihood support programmes that will help with the community’s socioeconomic development.

The programme is targeted at the Almajiri and Fulani communities. The project has been piloted in IDP Camps and Fulani Communities both in the FCT and Adamawa state. We are currently implementing a scaled up version of the project in Ruga Community, in Katampe Abuja.

WHY CCLM?

CCLM was designed to meet the basic educational needs of the various underserved Fulani and Almajiri communities in Nigeria as identified in the need assessment and baseline surveys carried out by Illmi Children’s Fund. The results of these surveys shows that for Fulani
Ruga communities, 93.5% of school age children have never been enrolled in school, while the 83.08% of in-school children cannot read and write. Similar case is also seen for the adult population. Poor entrepreneurship, civic engagement, digital and financial literacy is also seen in these communities.

VISION OF CCLM?

CCLM is targeted at producing learned individuals who can contribute positively to the development of their communities. And also utilize the available entrepreneurial, digital and financial opportunities to better their livelihood. The project has been piloted in IDP Camps and Fulani Communities both in the FCT and Adamawa state. With support from National and international development partners, the project aim to expand its scope and scale to other states in Nigeria, especially states where Fulani and Almajiris are predominantly domiciled.

The project aims to engage key stakeholders in the government, corporate, technology and the development space. Our ultimate goal is to scale this model and make it a standard for providing basic non-formal education to educationally-disadvantaged communities in Nigeria and other countries tackling similar problems in West and Central Africa.
