Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality

BACKGROUND

The United Nations International Women’s Day (IWD) commemorates and honors women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education. This theme is aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67), “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.” The event will also emphasize the importance of protecting women’s and girls’ rights in digital spaces and addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.

Over 90% of jobs already have a digital component. Girls must have education, access, and opportunities to create digital technology.

Illmi Children’s Fund will be hosting a webinar and digital skills training for 50 young girls in selected public senior secondary schools in commemoration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2022. There is this saying that “Talent is universal, but opportunity is not.” Observing world trends, digital technologies are radically changing the way we live, learn, and work. The digital world opens up perspectives and opportunities beyond our imagination, for example, Artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing, and virtual reality have given rise to new business models and professions.

VISION OF CCLM?

CCLM is targeted at producing learned individuals who can contribute positively to the development of their communities. And also utilize the available entrepreneurial, digital and financial opportunities to better their livelihood. The project has been piloted in IDP Camps and Fulani Communities both in the FCT and Adamawa state. With support from National and international development partners, the project aim to expand its scope and scale to other states in Nigeria, especially states where Fulani and Almajiris are predominantly domiciled.

The project aims to engage key stakeholders in the government, corporate, technology and the development space. Our ultimate goal is to scale this model and make it a standard for providing basic non-formal education to educationally-disadvantaged communities in Nigeria and other countries tackling similar problems in West and Central Africa.
